Can you get zoloft without a perscription, because I really don't want my parents knowing if I'm on it or not.

no. zoloft is a perscription drug.
you need to be evaluated by a doctor to determine if you really need it. however, if you do need an anti-depressant, i wouldn't go with zoloft. it's really strong and tends to turn you into a zombie. my friend took it for a few months and her personality totally changed, not for the better. she was tired all the time and totally zoned out.
i guess everyone reacts differently, but it was pretty hard to watch her go through that...

first:: are you active? if you spend the majority of your day not doing anything or if you don't exercise on a regular basis... then you can try that.

Check out this website:: http://www.mothernature.com/Library/Bookshelf/Books/48/62.cfm
it has a lot of suggestions of things you can do at home to try and avert your depression.

if it still persists and you would like to try something over the counter::
You can try St. John's Wort. It's a vitamin that can be found in almost any drugstore.
It's more commonly prescribed for depression in Europe than antidepressants. Actually, it's been used for ages to treat mental disorders and nerve pain. Plus, you won't have all the side effects that you get from prescription meds.
Don't take it if you're taking any kind of anti-anxiety medication, and check with your doctor if you're taking prescription meds for ANYTHING (as there may be a negative chemical reaction) before you start taking it. Other than that, it's a generally safe alternative to antidepressants for mild to moderately depressed people.

if that doesn't help, i'd see a doctor!

Because it has a black box label (meaning do not administer unless absolutely necessary) for homicidal and suicidal behavior. Which means you could end up killing yourself or others on this medication. Also it causes insomnia (and I don't mean just when you're on the medication it took me about 6 years after taking it to get chemically stable again.) I still get the migranes. It's horrible. Just trust me and don't do it. Try something placebo first.
